Why Vegan Lip Balm?

These days we have all become far more aware of what we are putting on our skin. And I don’t mean what products we use, but what’s actually inside them. What ingredients we are using, and where they come from. This can only lead to benefit us humans.

And in turn, the more savvy and educated we can all become. Good news right?

So, what happens if you’re vegan, or allergic to one or many animal products? The options for vegan alternatives are way more accessible than in times gone by. I know what you’re thinking “I use cruelty-free lip balms, I’m doing my part”

Although cruelty-free lip balm products are a good step, these can still be categorized as such while containing animal by-products.

Take beeswax for a minute. Beeswax is often one of the main ingredients used in lip balm. Once you start paying attention, you’ll notice.

And when you really start to take a look, you’ll discover just how many lip balms and lip care products are based on beeswax or bee-byproducts. (I like to say bee-byproducts!)

After all, beeswax is occlusive, which makes it a beneficial ingredient in lip balm. It helps keep moisture locked into your skin, however, being a bee-by product means it’s pretty much discounted from the vegan umbrella.

What Are the Best Alternatives to Beeswax?

So, what are your vegan options then, if you are indeed allergic to beeswax? I suspect this was the situation with my case studies when learning about Egyptian Magic.

The best news is, you definitely have options.

Efficacious alternatives to beeswax include (but are not limited to) – soy, carnauba wax, berry wax, and candelilla wax.

All are plant derivatives and tend to make up the base of vegan lip balms on the market.

So let’s take a look at my list of the best vegan lip balms and best vegan lip balm brands your money can buy.
