Are you as fascinated by the concept of a lip plumper product as I am? Perhaps you’ve tried some plumping products of your own?
I do recall trying out a so-called surgery-free lip enhancer many years ago…..it was more than a little tingly. And I only used it the one time. Nuff said!
Needless to say, when I heard about the new e.l.f. Lip Plumper and Primer dual-sided lipstick tube, I was more than a little excited to give it a try for myself!
I’m a big advocate of e.l.f. and everything they stand for. Affordability. Vegan. Cruelty-free. Ethical.
If you haven’t noticed, I talk about e.l.f. often.
It’s always fun when you get to try new products. And e.l.f’s lip plumper and primer promise to give you smoother, shinier, more voluminous lips. Some deliver on their promise. Others, unfortunately, don’t.
So, what about e.l.f.’s two-in-one lip plumper and primer? Is it just as good as it sounds? Does it really deliver a long-lasting, plumped-up pout?
I’ve tried and tested this product for myself. And I also wanted to conduct some hard-target research to give you the most honest, most accurate review of the e.l.f. Lip Plumper and Primer.

What’s in the Box?
Inside the box, you’ll find a thick dual-sided lipstick tube featuring a lip primer on one end and a lip plumper on the other end. Yep, it’s two in one!
And the great thing about e.l.f. makeup products (including this one) is that they are 100% cruelty-free and vegan.
But how well do the products perform exactly? Let’s find out!

e.l.f. Lip Primer Pros/Cons
Pro
Its Creamy Texture
The first thing I noticed about the primer is its creamy texture. It glides on with ease much like a creamy concealer.
Some lip primers have a funky texture that feels a little weird on your lips. You just want to get it off asap – you know the kind.
E.L.F’s primer is rich and creamy but lightweight enough to not feel heavy on the lips. It feels really nice!
Con
Not Great for Women of Color
With its ivory-beige hue, this primer isn’t a good choice for women of color. The shade looks a little bizarre when worn on its own.
One Amazon reviewer wrote, “Definitely not NATURAL for women of color! You’ve been warned.”
It would be nice if they created this formula so that it suits all skin colors.
Perhaps release it in a range of various tones?
Pro
It Smooths Out Lines
The primer provides an even base for the plumper and other lip products.
According to one Amazon reviewer, it can even smooth out fine lines on the lips.
“My lips are on the wrinkly side and I find the primer helpful in making my lipliner easier and smoother to apply,” she wrote.
Con
It Contains Talc
While talc is great for absorbing oil, many people are actually allergic to talc. A couple of reviewers have complained of allergies after using this product. So if you have a known talc allergy, steer clear of this product.
Pro
While it’s not advisable to wear this alone (see above con) this primer did end up helping my Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lippie stay in place all day! (A rare occurrence when it comes to lipstick and my face, let me tell you!) So that’s two thumbs up for its ability to work underneath lipstick.

e.l.f. Lip Plumper Pros/Cons
Pro
It’s Super Hydrating
Made with a blend of waxes, this plumper is conditioning enough to wear alone – without the primer. It leaves your lips feeling smooth and soft.
Con
Short-lasting Cinnamon Taste
Its cinnamony smell and taste are definitely a plus point, but according to reviewers, that sweet cinnamon bun flavor isn’t exactly long-lasting. And if you happen to be allergic to cinnamon, it’s a safe bet to avoid this plumper and primer altogether and avoid a potential allergic reaction.
Pro
It Plumps
Isn’t that what it’s supposed to do?
Technically, yes. Unfortunately, there are many brands out there selling products promising to plump, but they don’t deliver in that promise. In the end, customers pop these products on with no visible volumizing results.

E.L.F’s Lip Plumper is a somewhat effective plumping product.
“I have a full lip but I like some more pout and fullness when I do my full makeup. And this WORKS!” writes one user.
You’ll know it’s working when you feel that tingling sensation.
Don’t worry, it isn’t painful. You’ll feel an immediate cooling sensation followed by a subtle plumping tingle effect. It actually feels rather nice.
For me personally, this resulted in more of a flushing of the lips. Brought on, of course, by the aforementioned “tingling” caused by the cinnamon it contains.
One thing many reviewers agree on is that this plumper delivers results that last a few hours. In other words, you don’t need to keep reapplying.

e.l.f. Lip Plumper and Primer Value
At around $4, you can’t really complain about the price. It’s a bargain. For what this two-in-one product offers, it’s not going to break the bank.
Of course, you’re not going to see the kind of dramatic results you see from fillers, but the product – especially when used together – does offer a subtle, temporary plumping effect.
And you have to remember that for $4, you’re getting two products – a primer and a plumper. Pretty good deal. Right?
What it Does
E.L.F’s Lip Plumper and Primer is a two-in-one product that delivers a softer, smoother, plumper pout that lasts for hours.
With its cinnamon scent and taste, and silky texture, this duo glides on beautifully.
It can be your daily go-to for a perfect pout.
Does it Work?
In my humble opinion and judging from what I’ve found online about the e.l.f Lip Plumper and Primer reviews and feedback, I’d have to say it definitely does work. Just a little.
The results are not dramatic, but you can certainly notice a slight improvement in lip condition and size.
The secret to making this product work its best is to use both sides of the tube.
And for me, I’d have to say I was more pleased and surprised by the primer than the plumper.
After much testing with the primer – wearing it under lipstick, on its own, and with the plumper.
And for someone who doesn’t wear lipstick well (although it seems to love being on my teeth, cheeks, and generally anywhere except my lips!) this primer helped my lipstick stay put, for longer and it looks more even as well.
I’ll definitely use this lip primer again in the future!
And readers of my post about primers vs concealers – well, never say never!!!

At only $4, you don’t really have much to lose trying this out.
